A coalition of 21 major Indian news publishers, represented by the Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA), has petitioned the Supreme Court to challenge the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act. The DNPA, whose members include Network18, NDTV, The Indian Express, and Times Internet, argues that the law lacks exemptions for journalistic work. The petition contends that provisions requiring consent, data erasure, and government access could compromise confidential sources, restrict investigative reporting, and force media houses to remove factual coverage. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the matter on October 27.
