AI models from OpenAI and Google have uncovered critical security vulnerabilities in core PHP, a programming language powering roughly 70% of all websites globally. Security research firm Calif first identified the flaw using OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol model, while cybersecurity firm Wiz independently discovered additional vulnerabilities using Google and OpenAI models. Assigned a critical severity score of 9.2 out of 10, the flaws affect PHP versions dating back to 5.4 and could allow attackers to hijack servers and steal data. The PHP development team released security patches on October 21, urging administrators to update immediately.
