The Union Cabinet has cleared the Capex Support Scheme to Promote Critical Mineral Processing with a financial outlay of ₹2,814 crore spanning FY27 to FY31. The initiative aims to establish four domestic processing units, comprising two plants for lithium and two for nickel, to reduce reliance on imported minerals. Beneficiaries will receive milestone-linked capital subsidies covering up to 30% of eligible investments, capped at ₹500 crore per lithium facility and ₹900 crore per nickel unit. The resulting high-purity compounds will support domestic electric vehicles, energy storage systems, electronics, and defense manufacturing.
