Cashfree launches Checkout for Agents to enable autonomous AI payments

Fintech startup Cashfree Payments has unveiled Checkout for Agents, a new solution designed to enable artificial intelligence agents to complete e-commerce transactions autonomously. Built on the open-source Web Model Context Protocol (WebMCP), the tool enables AI agents to read order totals and select payment methods directly, reducing token consumption by over 40% compared to traditional web browsing. Cashfree co-founder Reeju Datta stated that the tool eliminates merchant code changes and lowers transaction drop-offs for personal AI assistants such as Instinct, Meta's Muse, and Grok Bot, while keeping final payment authorization firmly with the user.
