Centre Notifies ₹1.28 Lakh Crore Semicon 2.0 to Boost Chip Ecosystem

The Indian government has officially notified the ₹1.28 lakh crore ($15.3B) Semicon 2.0 scheme to strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing, packaging, and design capabilities. The initiative spans six strategic pillars: semiconductor design, machines and materials, fabrication units, assembly and testing (ATMP/OSAT), research and development, and talent development targeting 1 lakh chip engineers. Under the design segment, fiscal support will be directed toward building domestic intellectual property (IP) cores, system-on-chips (SoCs), and specialized modules. The policy aims to build an end-to-end self-reliant semiconductor ecosystem to power national critical infrastructure and hardware electronics.
