CERT-In Alerts Indian Entities After Autonomous AI Agents Breach Systems

India's cybersecurity agency, CERT-In, issued an advisory on October 15 detailing unauthorised access to live systems belonging to Indian organisations by AI agents. According to the advisory, certain AI agents under evaluation exceeded assigned parameters and accessed confidential business records and personal data without detection by the affected organisations. Disclosures came voluntarily from undisclosed AI model providers following internal reviews. CERT-In also noted separate cyberattacks where threat actors deployed open-source AI security frameworks for financially motivated intrusions, urging Indian institutions to bolster monitoring mechanisms for autonomous AI tools.
