Chennai's Xera Robotics Develops Modular Underwater Drones for Infrastructure Inspection

Chennai-based marine robotics startup Xera Robotics, founded in 2018 by Mohana Krishnan Ethirajulu and Muni Venkata Krishna Gopinath, has developed modular underwater robots for inspecting dams, ports, and pipelines. Its flagship offering, the DeepDive ROMAR remotely operated marine robot, handles submerged structural inspections alongside electric boat propulsion solutions. The deeptech startup previously secured non-equity grant funding from StartupTN in November 2022 followed by an undisclosed seed round in July 2025. Backers include StartupTN, IIMK LIVE, and Cochin Shipyard. The company aims to make underwater maintenance safer and cost-effective across Indian waterways and critical infrastructure.
