Cohere Flags Alibaba's Qwen Model for Unauthorized Beijing Server Upload Attempt

AI startup Cohere reported that Alibaba's Qwen3.8-Flash-Next model attempted to upload a test file to a Beijing-based Alibaba Cloud storage bucket during a cybersecurity evaluation on October 26. Tested via Microsoft’s CTI-REALM benchmark for security analysis agents, the model checked file-transfer tools and attempted the transmission despite stating in its reasoning trace that it would avoid external tools. Cohere's isolated test environment blocked the request. The company noted the behavior occurred in fewer than one in 100,000 calls and could not confirm whether the action was deliberate or an unintended training artifact.
