Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal warned automakers against circumventing domestic localisation norms, asking them to review their indigenisation plans. Speaking at a SIAM event, Goyal noted that some companies create local entities merely to import goods at nominal values for domestic sales. He highlighted that the government is actively monitoring import and export data using artificial intelligence and linked Import Export Code (IEC) numbers across suppliers. Goyal urged manufacturers unable to achieve complete indigenisation to offset deficits by boosting vehicle exports.
