The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) has issued an advisory alerting banks, NBFCs, and fintech startups to sophisticated cyberattacks executed by malicious AI agents. The National Cybercrime Threat Analysis Unit revealed that attackers exploit unpatched software and misconfigured servers to infiltrate financial systems and conduct unauthorized transactions worth crores of rupees. Once inside, automated AI agents target disbursement APIs, moving illicit funds across mule accounts via IMPS and NEFT before erasing logs. The cybersecurity agency has advised financial institutions to urgently implement critical CERT-In advisories regarding payment APIs and agentic AI systems.
