DPIIT Explores Government Procurement Reforms to Boost Demand for Indian Startups

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade is working to leverage public procurement processes to support Indian startups with early demand access. Speaking at the curtain-raiser for National Startup Awards 6.0, DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Singh Bhatia called for greater private sector integration of startups into enterprise supply chains. DPIIT Additional Secretary Ateesh Kumar Singh highlighted that existing General Financial Rules relaxations and circulars facilitate procurement, but adoption remains limited due to information asymmetry. The department is collaborating with finance, public enterprises, and MSME ministries to streamline these mechanisms.
