Bengaluru-based cybersecurity firm eMudhra has announced plans to voluntarily shut down its global SSL and TLS certificate business after a security vulnerability was discovered. A security researcher found that private keys for eight intermediate certificate authority certificates were weak enough to be recovered, leading browser root programmes like Google and Mozilla to distrust eMudhra's certificates. Cofounder Kaushik Srinivasan confirmed the exit, noting the segment contributed just 1% of global revenue, which stood at ₹701.6 crore in FY26. eMudhra cited rising compliance costs, commoditization from free providers like Let's Encrypt, and low margins.
