A forensic audit by KPMG revealed that the €3.04 million banking fraud at Capillary Technologies’ subsidiary, SessionM Czech Republic, stemmed from an external payment-diversion scam. According to an exchange filing by Capillary, the fraud involved impersonating a senior executive and an external lawyer using lookalike email domains, WhatsApp, and social engineering. The investigation found no evidence of malware, mailbox compromise, account takeover, or employee complicity in the inspected systems. Funds were transferred to entities in Hong Kong and Singapore. Capillary stated it has tightened payment controls and is actively pursuing legal remedies and asset recovery.
