The Gates Foundation has announced a $1 billion, two-year commitment to fund local-language artificial intelligence tools focused on health, education, and agriculture. Marking the release of its 2026 Goalkeepers report, CEO Mark Suzman stated that decisions over the next two years will determine whether AI narrows or widens global inequality. Following visits across India, including collaborations with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Suzman emphasized that India’s talent pool, public digital infrastructure, and government alignment make it uniquely positioned to deploy AI solutions that benefit low-income populations and drive equitable societal progress.
