Shifting consumer behavior towards generative AI tools is disrupting traditional search advertising economics. Meta reported third-quarter advertising revenue of $63.06 billion, up 26% year-on-year, driven by AI-enhanced ad targeting and campaign tools. In contrast, Google’s search advertising revenue growth slowed to 12% at $63.35 billion, with search accounting for under 50% of revenue for the first time. Conversational chatbots such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Meta’s Muse, alongside Google's own AI Overviews, are driving zero-click user experiences. These direct answer formats reduce traditional web link clicks and lower ad impressions per query.
