India's deeptech ecosystem expanded significantly with the Bharat Innovates initiative, anchored by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India. The program partnered with over 15 higher education institutions and key departments including DST, DPIIT, and NITI Aayog. After evaluating more than 3,000 applications, the advisory committee selected 120 ventures across sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, space, biotechnology, advanced materials, and climate tech. India currently hosts over 4,000 active deeptech startups, supported by expanding capital access, focused institutional research, and public policies promoting intellectual property-led domestic innovations.
