Chennai-based climate-tech startup Hypersonic Technologies is producing clean hydrogen alongside carbon black using staged-plasma pyrolysis to help heavy industries decarbonise. Founded in 2023 by Jayaraman Kandasamy and Jayakumar Venkatesan, the startup converts methane and biomethane into industrial-grade hydrogen and solid carbon. By generating two valuable commercial products in a single operation, the process helps offset clean hydrogen production costs. The company utilizes a proprietary two-stage setup combining dielectric plasma and microwave plasma to enhance efficiency and process stability, targeting high-emission sectors including oil refineries, steel manufacturing, cement producers, and fertilizer plants across India.
