MumbaiSemi, a deeptech startup spun out of IIT Bombay, has developed DhruvaPro, an indigenous programmable radio-frequency (RF) chip for navigation receivers. Founded in late 2024 by Vijay Kanchetla and IIT Bombay professor Rajesh Zele, the company aims to reduce India's reliance on imported hardware for its NavIC satellite navigation system. The reconfigurable chip captures, filters, amplifies, and digitizes weak satellite signals across multiple frequency bands before decoding. Developed following six years of research at IIT Bombay, MumbaiSemi is now commercialising the chip and running industry pilots to supply global navigation hardware manufacturers.
