Researchers at IIT Madras and Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, have developed three artificial intelligence-based tools to enable early detection and assessment of kidney disease. Announced on September 3, 2026, the suite integrates machine learning, medical imaging, and 3D reconstruction. The first tool utilizes routine clinical and laboratory data with a random forest model to predict chronic kidney disease risk. The second applies deep learning to classify CT scans across four categories: normal, cyst, stone, or tumour. The third platform generates 3D kidney reconstructions from CT scans to measure tumour and organ volumes accurately.
