The Indian government is formulating a dedicated national data centre policy to accelerate artificial intelligence infrastructure while balancing power, water, and land usage concerns. Junior IT Minister Jitin Prasada announced the proposed framework at a Central Electricity Authority event in Delhi. With sector investments projected to hit $200 billion, India’s operational capacity has grown from 375 MW in 2020 to 1.57 GW in August, with forecasts reaching 8 GW by 2030. Industry leaders, including Yotta Data Services CEO Sunil Gupta, are advocating for dependable power access, faster regulatory clearances, and affordable energy tariffs.
