The Indian government is developing a dedicated national data centre policy to accelerate artificial intelligence infrastructure while tackling power, water, and sustainability challenges, Junior IT Minister Jitin Prasada announced on October 14. India's data centre capacity grew from 375 MW in 2020 to 1.57 GW in August, with capacity projected to touch 8 GW by 2030 and electricity demand reaching 17 GW by 2032. With potential investments estimated at $200 billion, industry stakeholders like Yotta Data Services are advocating for streamlined approvals, scalable green energy, and cheaper power tariffs amid community concerns in Mumbai and Visakhapatnam.
