India's alcoholic beverages market has grown to an estimated size of Rs 5 lakh crore, dominated heavily by spirits which account for three-fourths of the overall market value. Speaking on the Prime Venture Partners Podcast, Ankur Sachdeva, founder of Uppal Brewers & Distillers and maker of whisky brands Soorahi and Madhvan, outlined how consumer behaviour has transformed over two decades. Indian consumers are rapidly premiumising and adopting homegrown craft spirits, marking a significant divergence from global alcohol consumption patterns where beer typically dominates the market volume and total value.
