India's Semiconductor Mission Expands Workforce Beyond Elite Engineering Colleges

India's semiconductor push is creating diverse employment opportunities beyond elite engineering graduates, according to Amitesh Kumar Sinha, CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission. Speaking ahead of Semicon India 2026, Sinha highlighted that operations at facilities like CG Power's packaging plant in Sanand, Gujarat, employ workers from Jharkhand, Bihar, and Odisha. The expanded Semicon 2.0 initiative features an outlay of Rs 1,27,500 crore, introducing dedicated talent and R&D pillars alongside manufacturing incentives. To date, twelve manufacturing units have secured approvals, with Micron, Kaynes, and CG Semi currently active in commercial production.
