India aims to expand its 5G subscriber base from 550 million to one billion by 2030, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced at the India Mobile Congress 2026. Highlighting rapid domestic adoption, Scindia noted India's ambition to lead next-generation 6G connectivity, backed by the Bharat 6G Alliance with 7,700 patents filed. India's telecom ecosystem has expanded to over 1.1 billion broadband users and 1.35 billion mobile connections since 2017. Data costs dropped sharply from ₹268 per gigabyte in 2014 to ₹8, establishing the nation as a global leader in high-volume, affordable digital infrastructure.
