Indian financial institutions are increasingly moving beyond software procurement to directly invest in and co-develop solutions with artificial intelligence startups. Major domestic lenders are backing specialized platforms to tailor workflows for regulatory compliance and data security. HDFC Bank and Canara Bank have invested in AI startup CoRover, while IDFC FIRST Bank partnered with Sarvam to build an adaptive banking framework. Additionally, Bajaj Finance has earmarked ₹1,500 crore for AI initiatives, and Axis Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank are deploying specialized voice AI. These strategic partnerships offer startups crucial enterprise data, distribution scale, and sandbox environments.
