Indian e-commerce platforms generated approximately Rs 24,000 crore in gross merchandise value during the opening two days of the 2026 festive season, according to Redseer Strategy Consultants. Between 60 million and 65 million consumers placed 80 million to 90 million orders, with strong participation recorded across tier-II and tier-III towns. Smartphones led overall sales value, alongside electronics, home appliances, and fashion categories. Concurrently, telecom competition intensified as Starlink targeted low-cost internet services in India, while Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella urged global technology firms to integrate mandatory emergency shutoff mechanisms into autonomous artificial intelligence systems.
