Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the Indian government is preparing a consultation paper to formalize artificial intelligence regulation. Speaking at the launch of the World Bank's World Development Report, Vaishnaw stated that the blueprint will establish foundational rules focusing on AI safety, cybersecurity, and deepfake proliferation. The minister emphasized that legislation alone cannot govern emerging technologies, advocating instead for a techno-legal approach developed with active industry participation. The paper aims to tackle societal risks while simultaneously promoting responsible technological innovation across India.
