Jack Dorsey’s decentralised peer-to-peer messaging app Bitchat has been removed from Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store in India following an order by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The directive was issued under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act for allegedly hosting illegal content, according to an email shared by Dorsey. Bitchat, launched in 2025, enables offline communication via Bluetooth mesh networks without requiring internet access, centralised servers, or user accounts. The platform’s website and TestFlight beta access have also been rendered inaccessible within the country.
