Jio Platforms Explores Licensing Wireless Broadband Tech to US Cable Operators

Jio Platforms is in discussions with US cable operators Comcast and Charter Communications to license its proprietary unlicensed band radio (UBR) wireless broadband technology in exchange for potential equity stakes. The Reliance Industries subsidiary plans to partner with 10 to 15 global telecom operators, licensing its technology instead of building infrastructure overseas. UBR delivers high-speed internet to buildings via rooftop transmitters using unlicensed Wi-Fi spectrum, eliminating the need for individual cable lines. Jio previously held talks with South Africa's MTN Group, but negotiations fell through due to disagreements on valuation and licensing terms.
