Karnataka Government Launches KEO Open-Source Edge AI Computing Device

The Karnataka government has launched KEO (Knowledge-driven, Economical and Open-source), a low-cost, AI-ready desktop computing platform designed to democratise access to advanced technology. Developed jointly by the state’s Department of Electronics, IT and Biotechnology, KEONICS, semiconductor partners, and system integrators, the device combines open-source RISC-V processor architecture with an on-device AI accelerator. The hardware enables artificial intelligence applications to run locally without relying on high-speed internet connectivity. Officials stated that the Made-in-Karnataka platform is aimed at serving students, entrepreneurs, farmers, small businesses, and institutions operating in remote and low-connectivity regions.
