The Union Ministry of Labour and Employment has officially notified the constitution of the National Social Security Board for Unorganised Workers and Gig and Platform Workers under the Code on Social Security, 2020. Chaired by the Union Labour Minister, the board includes representatives from central and state governments, aggregator platforms, employers, trade unions, and worker associations. The board will recommend, monitor, and review social welfare schemes such as health insurance, pensions, provident funds, and maternity benefits for gig workers. The framework also mandates eligible aggregators to contribute between 1% and 2% of annual turnover.
