Researchers at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) have introduced Weight-Space Programming, a method allowing large language models to inspect and modify neural network weights without traditional gradient descent retraining. In experiments using OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra, researchers demonstrated that the model could identify flaws and write neural networks from scratch. In one test, modifying just 0.016% of weights in a small model, Qwen3.5-0.8B, boosted its MATH-500 benchmark score from 7.9% to 48.1%, proving that frontier LLMs can natively debug and enhance other neural networks.
