NCPCR Summons Meta India Head Over Alleged Instagram Child Abuse Ads

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has summoned Meta India's Managing Director to appear on September 9, 2026. The summons escalates NCPCR's formal inquiry into allegations that paid advertisements linked to child sexual abuse material were published on Instagram in India. The child rights regulator initiated suo motu proceedings on July 3 following a BBC Eye investigative report, which revealed that Instagram's recommendation algorithms and paid ad network directed users to Telegram channels selling explicit material. Meta stated that it does not knowingly run such ads and removed the flagged links and accounts.
