PhonePe Launches Offline UPI 123Pay for Feature Phone Users Across India

Walmart-backed digital payments major PhonePe has launched UPI 123Pay, enabling feature phone users across India to execute UPI transactions without internet access. Aimed at India’s 200 million feature phone user base, the SMS-based service facilitates peer-to-peer transfers, merchant payments, transaction history checks, and balance inquiries over 2G networks. UPI 123Pay will come pre-installed on select devices from Nokia, HMD, Lava, and Itel. PhonePe also introduced an AI-powered voice helpline supporting English and 12 Indian languages to assist users. The launch comes as PhonePe dominates the UPI ecosystem, processing over 45% of total volumes.
