Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met with key data centre stakeholders, hyperscalers, infrastructure providers, and state government representatives on September 1 to address operational and regulatory challenges. Discussions focused on ensuring adequate power supply through cluster-based substation planning, Day-1 sanctioned loads, cross-state renewable energy procurement, and creating power-ready land banks. Industry leaders also reviewed single-window clearance mechanisms and specialized building norms to accelerate infrastructure deployment. The push comes amid soaring artificial intelligence and cloud computing workloads, with hyperscalers accounting for more than 80 percent of Indian data centre capacity absorption in early 2026.
