Addressing the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai on September 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on Indian fintech startups to significantly strengthen cybersecurity and consumer data protection. As financial services increasingly adopt frontier technologies such as agentic AI, tokenisation, and quantum computing, Modi outlined four priorities: robust cybersecurity, ethical data protection, financial inclusion, and consumer trust. He urged fintech leaders to set self-regulatory targets to secure digital infrastructure. The remarks come as the government forms an inter-ministerial group to develop a national financial cybersecurity strategy following rising global concerns over autonomous AI vulnerability exploitation.
