PM Surya Ghar Crosses 50 Lakh Rooftop Solar Installations Across India

India's flagship rooftop solar initiative, PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, has reached over 50.06 lakh households in a little over two years, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy on August 4, 2026. The Rs 75,021 crore scheme has rapidly accelerated installation speeds, adding nearly 16,328 households daily in July 2026. Around Rs 28,024 crore has been disbursed to beneficiaries via Direct Benefit Transfer, commissioning 14.8 GW of solar capacity. Additionally, concessional loans at 5.75% interest have supported 17.5 lakh completed installations, advancing the government's target of powering 1 crore homes nationwide.
