Indian defense electronics manufacturer Samtel Avionics has signed a memorandum of understanding with Japanese space startup BULL Co. to explore combined space debris mitigation and removal technologies. The exploratory collaboration evaluates integrating BULL’s passive post-mission disposal systems—which help satellites de-orbit after their operational lifespans—with active debris removal systems capable of capturing non-functional objects in orbit. With over 40,000 tracked objects and an estimated 1.2 million fragments cluttering low Earth orbit, the partnership focuses on joint technical assessments, hardware customization, and interface integration to improve orbital sustainability for commercial and defense satellite operators.
