Satlyt, an orbital computing startup founded by a former Google and SpaceX product manager, has raised $8 million in fresh funding. The company aims to become the Android of orbital computing by providing open software capable of running artificial intelligence workloads across satellites from multiple manufacturers. This approach directly contrasts with SpaceX's proprietary, vertically integrated ecosystem. Satlyt plans to use the capital to accelerate software development and deploy edge AI processing capabilities directly in space, enabling satellites to analyze imagery and telemetry data on orbit before transmitting essential insights back down to Earth.
