The Supreme Court of India has directed Matrimony.com and matchmaking platform Jodi365, operated by FreeElective Network, to explore an out-of-court settlement regarding their trademark dispute over the brand name 'Jodii'. A bench comprising Justices P S Narasimha and Alok Aradhe kept Matrimony.com’s plea pending after it challenged an August 11 Madras High Court order restraining it from using the name. Matrimony.com has proposed renaming its vernacular matchmaking app to 'Jodi Matrimony' to prevent service disruption. FreeElective had filed an infringement suit claiming prior trademark rights over the Jodi365 brand established in 2009.
