Telecom Department Mandates Calling Name Presentation on Mobile Networks From November 1

India's Department of Telecommunications has mandated telecom operators to roll out Calling Name Presentation services nationwide starting November 1, 2026. Under the revised unified licence norms, operators will automatically display the caller's registered name alongside their phone number on 4G and 5G wireless networks by default. The system queries originating service providers' databases without retaining user data post-call. Business and bulk connection subscribers can show verified registered trademarks or GST-registered trade names instead of raw subscriber records. Callers using caller identification restriction facilities will remain exempt from automatic name display.
