UPI Logs 24 Billion Transactions in September Despite Slight Monthly Dip

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) processed 24.07 billion transactions worth Rs 29.37 lakh crore in September 2026, according to data from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). While total monthly volume dipped 1.8% month-on-month from August's record 24.51 billion transactions due to fewer calendar days, average daily transactions rose 1.4% to 802 million. Daily transaction value reached Rs 97,913 crore. Year-on-year, UPI volume grew 23% and value rose 18%. In August, PhonePe led the market with a 45.64% transaction volume share, followed by Google Pay at 32.26% and Paytm at 8.03%.
