The United States government is suspending new Program Electronic Review Management (PERM) applications for permanent residency filed by tech giants including Microsoft, Cognizant, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, and HCLTech. US officials, including Vice President J D Vance and Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling, cited widespread labor certification abuse and alleged negative effects on domestic employment opportunities. Since 2009, these corporations have requested nearly 3 million foreign workers, securing over 230,000 H-1B visas and 100,000 permanent certifications. The PERM process is a mandatory preliminary requirement for employers sponsoring foreign professionals for employment-based US green cards.
