Speaking at TechSparks 2026, Couchbase APAC Vice President Michael Cronin highlighted data layer fragmentation as the primary obstacle preventing AI models from succeeding in production. Citing industry figures, Cronin noted that 70% to 80% of AI development projects fail to deploy, while an MIT study indicated 95% fail to achieve profitability. Couchbase aims to resolve this bottleneck with its operational data platform, which consolidates fragmented databases. Cronin advised enterprises and GCCs in India to start small by prioritizing mission-critical use cases before attempting enterprise-wide AI scaling.
