Discount brokerage giant Zerodha has received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India for a Category-I merchant banking licence via Zerodha Corporate Advisors. The regulatory clearance enables Zerodha to move beyond secondary market stockbroking into equity capital markets, allowing the firm to manage initial public offerings, follow-on public offerings, and advise corporate clients on fundraising strategies. The strategic diversification allows Zerodha to operate across both ends of India’s capital markets, expanding alongside its growing footprint in asset management, private startup investments, wealth services, and digital lending across the financial ecosystem.
